sweet home alabama

After spending a week in Alabama I am happily back in the city.  It was wonderful to see my friends; however, my heart belongs to New York City.  I learned sometimes you have to let go of the past in order to fully continue to live.  I realized I was trying to hold on to some people that let go of me a long time ago.

This coming week will be hectic; I started interning with Christian Siriano this afternoon. The next task on the list will be job hunting and finding an apartment. I am ready to settle down and call New York my home. I will keep you all updated and hopefully have a place of my own to show you soon!

As many of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There is so much going on this month to help show support and raise money in hopes of finding a cure. Take some time and see what is going on in your area and what ways you can help.

In the mood to shop? Designers have limited edition items that are specifically created to support breast cancer awareness:

a sunday in new york

My weekends are typically spent in the city where I stay with a best friend, but Sunday's are my favorite part of the weekend. The entire day is so relaxing with no worries.  Once we are all awake and out of bed we typically take a stroll to Brooklyn Bagels; however, on the really lazy days we have them deliver.  Brooklyn Bagels have the best bagels and coffee (if you ever visit you have to stop in). My order always consists of the same items: large coffee with milk and sugar and a whole wheat bagel toasted with apple cinnamon cream cheese.

My weekends have been very laid back recently. I realized that if I want to make it here I have get my priorities in line or I will end up back in Alabama.  I spent most of my weekend job hunting, boring, but I am hoping it will pay off in the end.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and for those that are in Auburn I will be seeing you soon!

to bake or not to bake

Chocolate makes everything better. After a week filled with stress and no sleep the only thing on my mind was having a relaxing weekend..and chocolate.  I didn't want a giant Hershey's bar so I went for no bake cookies. They are delicious and you don't have to use the oven.  I wanted to share my happiness with you:

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
  • 3 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, milk, butter, and cocoa. Bring to a boil, and cook for 1 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in peanut butter, oats, and vanilla. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper. Let cool until hardened.

These are too easy to bake; my girlfriends and I added banana to a batch, delicious touch. Enjoy!

insomnia.

It is official. I got no sleep last night; I pulled an all nighter for absolutely no reason except for the pure fact that I could not fall asleep.  In an attempt to be productive I got ready, hopped on the subway, and headed into the city around 7:15 this morning.

When I stepped off the subway and into the middle of Union Square I was in awe.  I had never heard New York so silent and peaceful.  I was almost walking the streets the alone.

I made my way to Starbucks on the corner of  17 St and found a window seat, people watching is my favorite. It is so nice to sit here and relax and my only company be my iced coffee and oatmeal.
I came to the realization early this week that I live half my days stressed out and I need to just relax. Today is my day to relax, go take your day. Whoever you may be that is reading this I hope you have a wonderful day.

what is your story?

Everyone has a story; a story that defines who you are and what made you that way.  The unrevealed story of life is that your story has an unexpected ending; however, being able to create your own story is the beautiful, often forgotten, craze of life. I started this blog because I ventured off course and began a different chapter of my story.

51 days ago I moved out of my comfort zone to New York City, the city of dreams.  I left the comfort of my family, friends, and 20 years of memories in same town behind to start over.  New York ( I am hoping) is where I can start a new stream of memories.  For starters, I should tell you I want to be in the fashion industry; therefore, New York seemed to be the prime location to start my new story. I have always wanted to start a blog and I figure there is no time better than the present to do so. So tell me, when it is time for you to get up and go which way are you walking?
